Thoughts from Children's Pastor's Conference Day One Morning Edition
What I intend to do over the next couple of days is just share some notes from the general sessions and from breakouts that I have attended. I will say, if you've never had the opportunity to attend CPC, this conference is definitely recommended. It is specifically for all those who serve birth through preteens in any capacity. If you are on twitter or facebook, you can likely gain some great insight into the conference by using the hashtag #CPC18. I'll be using that hashtag on both platforms and would love for you to follow me on either or both if you don't do so already.
Here are some brief thoughts on Tuesday morning's general session.
What a morning of worship through song, the opening of God's Word and through the prayer experience led by Beth Guckenberger. We got to hear from Brian Friberg & Band as they are our worship leaders for the conference. They have a great sound and are definitely sensitive to the Lord's leading when leading folks in worship through song. We also got to hear from INCM Board President and Senior Executive Pastor of Elmbrook Church Brodie Swanson. He brought a great word to conference attendees. Here's a quick tidbit of his opening message to CPC: What was I thinking moment? Pay attention to your heart. Proverbs 4:20-27
Guard your heart- from things like jealousy, competition
Give your heart- to the dreams and visions and calls on the things that God calls on our lives (we tend to give energy to the things that we are told to guard our hearts against)
Share our heart- it is impossible to do this by yourself (how are you in the middle of what you think, believe, do)
Find space to pay attention to our heart and find someone to confide in and pray with. Someone that you fully trust to help you and guide you when the time comes. Change the conversation from “what was I thinking” to “look at what He has done”
From there, we encountered some more worship through song and then got to experience a connection with God through prayer that was/is incredible. Here are a few quotes from her as she prepared us for this encounter:
Jesus is the loudest voice in the room. He is tailor-making over 1,000 conversations this morning.
Just make space for Me and I will come fill it.
Reminded today that God has solutions to the problems in my life that haven’t even presented themselves yet.
Man, that's good stuff and was a great way to get the day started. I'll have more tonight as general session two takes place with more worship through song and we get to hear from the talented Melissa J. MacDonald.
